Surge for TN shipbuilding

The Union Cabinet has approved a sweeping ₹69,725 crore package to overhaul India's shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure, including an extended Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme to 2036, a new Maritime Development Fund and a Shipbuilding Development Scheme.
The move is expected to unlock 4.5 million gross tonnage capacity, generate upward of 30 lakh jobs and draw investment close to ₹4.5 lakh crore.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated India's first Maritime Simulation Centre at AMET University in Chennai under a joint venture with A. P. Moller-Maersk, marking a strategic investment in maritime education.
