Powai locals save over 100 trees from axing
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|November 29, 2025
The Powai residents and green activists joined forces on Friday and succeeded in saving more than 110 trees, which were about to be axed or transplanted following the BMC's permission last year.
They have urged the CM to save the woods standing on private land bearing city survey number 9. The move caused a huge uproar among the locals, who asserted that Powai's “fragile ecosystem” cannot take another hit.
NatConnect Foundation has also started an online petition for the cause, while demanding “clean air and a livable Mumbai”. More than 350 people had signed the petition by Friday evening to strive for a city that “values health over hurried construction’.
