Move to cancel MLA's bail in second rape case

The Crime Branch has moved to cancel the bail granted to legislator Rahul Mamkootathil in a second rape case, alleging that he breached a key condition imposed by the court.

A petition filed on Monday before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court contends that the MLA attempted to influence the survivor, in violation of the fifth stipulation attached to his release.

The court has issued notice to Mamkootathil, directing him or his legal counsel to appear in person on the 28th of this month to respond to the allegations.

The development marks a fresh turn in a case that has drawn political attention and intensified scrutiny of how sexual offence cases involving elected representatives are handled.

According to the Crime Branch submission, Mamkootathil was granted bail in the second case subject to multiple conditions, including a prohibition on contacting or influencing the complainant or witnesses.
