NO APPEASEMENT | Govt sources defend curbs as security imperative
A political row intensified after K. Annamalai, former president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Tamil Nadu unit, condemned the State government for preventing devotees from lighting the Karthigai Deepam lamp at the dheepathoon atop the Thirupparankundram hill.
His remarks framed the move as an affront to religious sentiment and a sign of what he described as the administration’s tilt towards minority-focused political decisions, setting off another round of confrontations between the two principal parties in the State.
