Kollam’s flag shop comes out with flying colours

The Free Press Journal - Mumbai

November 23, 2025

Campaign activity has surged across Kollam as parties and candidates rely heavily on a longstanding hub for election material that has shaped the visual identity of polls in the district for decades.

- HD Bureau

The small but influential Kodi Kada, located near the bustling commercial stretch in the city, has emerged once again as a central point for flags, banners and paraphernalia that dominate campaign trails. Customers gather throughout the day to place urgent orders as rallies and roadshows expand across the constituency. The surge in demand mirrors the intensity of campaign efforts, with the shop's production units working extended hours to keep pace. The store, established in 1984, has evolved from a modest printing centre into a specialised supplier known for crafting almost every item required for political mobilisation.

This transformation has made Kodi Kada a fixture in the electoral cycle, with parties from Kollam and neighbouring districts depending on it for material that sets the tone and mood of their campaigns.

'Can extend SIR draft roll deadline if needed'

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it has the power to extend the date for publication of draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) if the petitioners are able to make out a case. The observation from Chief Justice of India Surya Kant came as parties in the West Bengal matter expressed concern that the case was being posted to December 9, the same day the draft roll is scheduled to be published. “So what? If you make out a case, then we can direct them to extend the date. Can that date be a ground for the Court to say that we don't have any power now? Court can always say,” the CJI remarked.
