If air quality dips, BMC likely to ban construction activities

The BMC has decided to halt all polluting units, including construction activities, if the AQI continues to be above 200 points, which falls in the poor category.

The proposed action is in accordance with the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) IV. The BMC has also alerted the police to carry out inspections, especially at night, and stop open burning. Penalties will be imposed for open burning, said a senior civic officer from the environment department. On Monday, the city's overall AQI (176) was in the moderate category.
