Contractor buses top PMPML breakdown list

PMPML logs 41,858 breakdowns in two years; contractor fleet accounts for majority despite repeated warnings

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) continues to struggle with frequent bus breakdowns across the city despite multiple measures aimed at improving fleet performance.

PMPML recorded 41,858 breakdowns in the last two years till November. In November alone, 1,585 buses broke down in different parts of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the PMRDA limits, severely affecting lakhs of daily commuters.

Officials said most of these breakdowns were reported from contractor-operated buses, raising concerns over their maintenance standards.
