Student assault accused captured after shooting

Coimbatore Police fired on three persons accused in the gang rape of 20-year-old postgraduate student while she was in a car with a male friend near the city airport on the night of 2 November and captured them.The three accused were shot in the legs during their arrest after they attacked a head constable and attempted to flee.

The arrested men are identified as Guna alias Thavasi, Sathish alias Karuppasamy and Karthik alias Kaleeswaran, all from Sivagangai district.

The incident took place at Brindhavan Nagar, behind the Coimbatore International Airport, and a police special team cornered the suspects at Thudiyalur around 11 pm on 3 November. A head constable sustained injuries to his left wrist and arm during the confrontation.
