SIT alleges pattern of abuse

A remand report filed by the Crime Branch Special Investigation Team alleges that Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil exploited his official position to target multiple homemakers and unmarried women, setting out a pattern of coercion that investigators say extended beyond a single complainant.

Mamkootathil was arrested early Sunday in connection with a third rape case and later remanded to judicial custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Pathanamthitta. The latest case arises from a complaint by a woman from Thiruvalla concerning an alleged assault in 2024. According to the remand report submitted to the court, investigators contend that Mamkootathil initiated contact through social media, cultivated familiarity over time and gained the complainant's trust by expressing interest in marriage.
