S. Railway rolls out extra services to ease rush from IndiGo crisis

Extra trains have been introduced from Chennai to manage a surge in passenger traffic after flight disruptions affected travellers across multiple routes.

Southern Railway confirmed that dedicated services towards Secunderabad and Charlapalli would operate over the weekend, providing additional capacity for passengers seeking alternative travel options.Officials said the move followed an assessment of crowd levels at Chennai Egmore, where long queues formed through the day as travellers shifted plans due to cancellations and delays in air services. Railway authorities coordinated with operational teams to allocate rakes, finalise timings and ensure that crews were available for overnight and early morning departures.

A senior official added that the priority was to move stranded passengers quickly while keeping regular services unaffected.
