Property tax relief cap may rise to 700 sq ft

After granting property tax exemption to properties measuring up to 500 sq ft, the BMC’s general body has passed a motion to extend the exemption limit to 700 sq ft.

A similar proposal by the BJP in 2018 remained undecided. However, this time, with no objections from the ruling BJP-Mahayuti alliance, Mayor Ritu Tawde approved the motion.

The proposal will now be sent to the BMC administration for final approval and could cost the civic body Rs700 crore in revenue if implemented.
