Police brace for crowds ahead of Messi visit

A head of Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi’s visit to Mumbai on Sunday, police said they are taking extra precautions to prevent stampede-like situations and avoid a repeat of the chaos that occurred in Kolkata during his visit on Saturday.

Traffic restrictions will be in place on Sunday from 12 noon to llpm to maintain smooth traffic movement. The traffic advisory was issued by Prashant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-South), under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Expected Visitors

33,000 at Wankhede Stadium

4,000 at Brabourne Stadium

30,000 people are expected outside and around the stadiums

Security measures

Water bottles, metals, coins inside the stadiums not allowed

More than 2,000 police personnel deployed near and around the venues
