IUML distances from Salam remarks

The leadership of the Indian Union Muslim League has formally distanced itself from a controversial comment made by its general secretary, P. M. A. Salam, directed at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

At a public event in Vazhakkad panchayat, Malappuram district, Salam asserted that the state government's decision to sign the MoU under the PM SHRI scheme was an “insult” because the chief minister was “neither male nor female” and therefore unfit—a remark the IUML leadership described as unacceptable.
