HC warns against using courts for politics
The Free Press Journal - Indore
|November 01, 2025
The Madras High Court has expressed concerns over the growing trend of political parties attempting to use the judiciary as a platform for settling their political differences.
The observation was made in the context of several petitions challenging the Union government’s introduction of three new criminal laws, which aim to replace key provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Evidence Act.
The petitioners raised questions regarding the constitutionality of the new laws, claiming they could undermine civil liberties and lead to excessive state control over criminal justice proceedings. However, the court highlighted that while it would examine the legal challenges, it was crucial that judicial proceedings not be manipulated for political posturing. The High Court stressed that the judiciary must remain impartial and independent, ensuring that its decisions are based on legal merit rather than political considerations.
