Deaf-mute man’s murder: Belgian probe team can question accused

Asessions court here has given its nod to a probe team from Belgium to interrogate three accused lodged in Mumbai prisons in connection with the murder of a speech and hearing-impaired man in 2024, in which a resident of that country is a wanted accused.

The Belgian team, comprising two police officers, is expected to be in India from October 11-18. They will be accompanied by one judge, one government lawyer, three police officers, one videographer and one interpreter.

As per the Additional Sessions Court that gave the permission, there is a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between the Republic of India and the Kingdom of Belgium. This agreement provides a framework for both countries to exchange requests for legal assistance in criminal matters.
