SUBJECT TO SAFEGUARDS | Court stipulated strict conditions for the protest
Justice S. Srimathy of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday permitted a limited public fast at Thiruparankundram, allowing residents to press their demand for lighting deepam at the Deepathoon pillar near a dargah on the hill, while imposing strict conditions aimed at maintaining public order.
The order came on a petition filed by advocate R. Prabhu of Thiruparankundram, who sought a direction to the district administration and police to grant permission for what was described as a peaceful fasting protest by members of the public on December 13.
