A police notice issued to organisers and a key speaker ahead of a Hindu Samajotsava and grand procession in Tarikere town of Chikkamagaluru district has triggered sharp political reactions, with the BJP accusing the Congress-led state government of curbing constitutional rights and indulging in “appeasement politics”.

- NT Correspondent

The programme was organised as part of celebrations marking 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Similar events have been planned by Hindu organisations and the BJP across the district and other taluk headquarters. However, the notice served by the police to organisers and designated speaker Vikas Puttur has become a major point of controversy.

According to sources, the notice laid down conditions on how the event should be conducted and what kind of speech should be delivered during the programme.
