CPM conducting public campaign against codes after rules drafted

- HD Bureau

Senior Congress leader K. C. Venugopal has accused the ruling Left Government in Kerala of acting as a shield for the central government’s corruption scandals and advancing a politically motivated communal agenda while aligning on labour reforms.

He challenged the CPM for launching a public campaign against the new labour codes when the party itself had drafted those very codes. Venugopal posed a pointed question: whose interests is the CPM protecting — workers’ or political expediency?

Venugopal’s comments come in the wake of widespread opposition to the federal government's four new labour codes by trade unions and state governments across India. The legislation, which replaces 29 existing labour laws with codes covering wages, industrial relations, social security, and workplace safety, has drawn criticism for reportedly diluting job security and reducing collective bargaining rights.
