The High Court order had found procedural shortcomings
The Supreme Court placed a stay on the order of the Madras High Court that had transferred the investigation into the murder of former Bahujan Samaj Party leader K Armstrong to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
A bench of Justices J K Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi heard the appeal brought by the Tamil Nadu government against the High Court's decision, which also had quashed the chargesheet filed by the state police. The stay effectively means that the direction for a CBI-led investigation is suspended while the appeal is adjudicated.
