Vagabhrini is a profound concept rooted in ancient Indian thought, most notably associated with the Vagabhrini Sukta of the Rig Veda (Mandala 10, Sukta 125).

The term literally means “she who bears speech” or the embodiment of vani (speech). Unlike symbolic references to speech alone, Vagabhrini represents awakened consciousness, self-realization, and the feminine principle that animates creation. It is one of the earliest expressions of a woman speaking in the first person in world literature, asserting identity, power, and universality.

The Vagabhrini Sukta is remarkable because the seer speaks as the Divine Feminine herself. The voice declares, “I move with the Rudras and the Vasus... I uphold both heaven and earth.” This is not devotion directed toward a deity; it is the deity speaking through self-awareness. The sukta dissolves the boundary between the individual and the cosmic, presenting consciousness as immanent rather than distant. In this sense, Vagabhrini becomes a declaration of inner sovereignty.
