The festival of Mahashivratri, which falls on February 15 this year, is usually observed as a night of fasting, meditation, and vigil, but from a deeper spiritual perspective it is far more than a ritual observance.
When we live the teachings of God Shiva, then every day becomes a day of awakening.
It is a reminder of our living relationship with God Shiva and a call to inner transformation.The word Shivratri literally means the night of Shiva. Spiritually, this “night” symbolizes the night of ignorance in which humanity has forgotten its true identity that we are souls, and peace, purity, and love are our original qualities. Mahashivratri commemorates the descent of God Shiva, the Supreme Soul, into this world to awaken humanity from this darkness. Shiva, the incorporeal Supreme Soul, the Ocean of Knowledge and Power, comes at the end of the cycle of time to reestablish purity and truth — not through miracles, but through spiritual knowledge.
