Supreme Court rejects ex-PFI head Abubacker's plea for bail on medical grounds, declines request to allow house arrest

The bench comprising of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice Aravind Kumar on November 12 directed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS to constitute a medical team to thoroughly examine Abubacker to ascertain if he deserved bail on medical grounds.

The Supreme Court in the case Abubacker E Versus National Investigation Agency observed and has rejected the petition filed by E Abubacker, the former Chairman of the banned outfit Popular Front of India, PFI for bail on medical grounds.
E Abubacker, the former Chairman of the banned outfit Popular Front of India, PFI, is presently in judicial custody; he was arrested under Section 120B and Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and Section 17, Section 18, Section 18B, Section 20, Section 22B, Section 38 and Section 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
In September 2022, E Abubacker was arrested by the agency during a massive crackdown on the banned organisation in 2022 wherein the Central Government banned PFI and associated entities for a period of five years under relevant provisions of UAPA.
