Supreme Court questions West Bengal Police on RG Kar Hospital rape-murder probe: 'Never seen such a procedure'

The bench comprising of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra was hearing the Suo motu expressed its dismay at the fact that the scene of the crime was sealed only late at night, despite the body was being discovered in the morning itself.
The bench in the case has taken over the horrific incident, wherein it highlighted the delay in the registration of the First Information Report, First Information Report, FIR and inconsistencies in the timings with regards to the entries for Unnatural Death.
The bench on August 22, 2024 perused the status report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI which took over the investigation under the directions of the Calcutta High Court and also the records submitted by the West Bengal Police.
The bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud posed to Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the State.
'Mr. Sibal, something is very disturbing. The GD entry in regard to unnatural death, UD is recorded at 10.10 in the morning. So, the Police Station is informed that there is an unnatural death. Notwithstanding all this, the securing of the crime scene, seizure etc. takes place at 11.30 at night? What was happening all by then?, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal asserted that this was incorrect infomation and he claimed that all proceedings were videographed.
