Supreme Court dismisses two PILs challenging deferment of women's reservation in Lok Sabha and state assemblies

The bench in the case observed and has dismissed the writ petition as infructuous as the counsel, Advocate Varun Thakur appearing for the petitioner stated that he had challenged the Bill, which has now become legislation. Earlier, the court in the Public Interest Litigation, PIL expressed reservations about directing the Union Government to immediately implement before the 2024 general elections, the 2023 Act.

The Supreme Court in the case Dr. Jaya Thakur Versus Union Of India And Anr and National Federation Of Indian Women, NFIW versus Union Of India observed and has dismissed the two Public Interest Litigations, PILs filed which relates to the implementation of the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, 2023 and challenging the delimitation clause respectively.

The court orally remarked that there being no question of violation of fundamental rights least Article 14 of Constitution of India and therefore, Article 32 jurisdiction will not be entertained.
