Schools, shops reopen in Leh after 9-day shutdown

Leh reopened after authorities eased the curfew that had been in place following days of violent protests demanding statehood for Ladakh.

The unrest left four people dead and caused significant property damage.

Asthe curfew was relaxed, markets sprang back to life, with hundreds of residents returning to the streets. Shops reopened, and both vehicles and pedestrians resumed movement through the city.

Officials confirmed that a magisterial inquiry into the violence has been ordered and is expected to be completed within four weeks.

Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday reviewed the security situation in the Union territory as all schools up to class 8 reopened in violence-hit Lehafter nine-days closure, officials said.
