SC plea challenges Delhi HC bail to Kuldeep Sengar in Unnao rape case

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to suspend the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and grant him bail in the 2017 Unnao rape case.

The plea, moved by two women lawyers, Anjale Patel and Pooja Shilpkar, seeks the setting aside of the High Court order, contending that the relief granted to Sengar is legally unsustainable and contrary to settled principles of criminal jurisprudence. It argues that the High Court ignored crucial prosecution material demonstrating the extreme brutality of the crime, the accused's criminal propensity, and his proven ability to misuse muscle power and financial influence.
