RAJASTHAN'S ENCHANTING HILL ESCAPES - THE HIDDEN PARADISES
The Daily Guardian
|November 20, 2025
When most people think of Rajasthan, their minds conjure images of golden deserts, majestic forts, and vibrant cities like Jaipur and Udaipur.
Yet, beyond the Thar Desert lies a lesser-known side of the state a world of lush hills, serene landscapes, and untouched natural beauty. The hills of Rajasthan, stretching across regions like Aravalli, Mewar, and the tribal belts of Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh, offer travelers a refreshing escape from the arid plains and a chance to connect with nature, culture, and adventure.
DISCOVERING THE ARAVALLI HILLS
The Aravalli Range, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, runs diagonally across Rajasthan, providing a green ribbon amidst the desert. The hills are dotted with forts, temples, and ancient stepwells, making them a perfect blend of history and natural beauty. Mount Abu, the state's only hill station, sits at an elevation of 1,220 meters and is the crown jewel of the Aravallis. Known for its cool climate, lush pine forests, and serene Nakki Lake, Mount Abu is a haven for trekkers, nature lovers, and spiritual seekers. The Dilwara Jain Temples, with their exquisite marble carvings, add a cultural dimension to the hill station's natural charm.
The Aravallis are also home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Birdwatchers can spot peacocks, kingfishers, and migratory birds, while wildlife enthusiasts may encounter leopards, jackals, and langurs in the sanctuary areas. The hill forests offer trekking trails for all levels, from gentle walks around Mount Abu Lake to challenging climbs up Guru Shikhar, the highest peak in Rajasthan.
