NCW flags comments by Trinamool minister against BJP's Sandeshkhali face

West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim stoked a controversy after he made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and referred to BJP leader Rekha Patra as "maal" while speaking of her Lok Sabha election loss to the Trinamool Congress in Basirhat.

Hakim's remark drew severe backlash from the BJP, with Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari calling it "outrageous" and demanding action against the Minister.

The National Commission for Women too has taken suo moto cognizance of the derogatory remarks made by Firhad Hakim against Rekha Patra. The Commission has directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to invoke relevant legal provisions and conduct a fair and time-bound investigation. A detailed report is to be submitted to the Commission within three days.

Speaking at an event, Hakim also took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for politicising the Sandeshkhali issue.
