When we look around us we find that impatient behaviour is now more common and intense than ever before, partly because modern environments have conditioned us to expect speed.

Navigate life's challenges with patience

Patience helps us move through life with steadiness, peace, and persistence.

Instant communication via mobile phone, quick access to information online, same-day delivery in e-commerce - our mind adapts to all these, resulting in reduced tolerance for delay, so that if something takes longer than we like, we start to think that there is a problem.

Impatience comes from a desire for control. Most of us like predictability, and when something does not happen as quickly as we want, or becomes uncertain, the mind interprets it as a loss of control. This triggers stress responses in the form of irritability, restlessness, or a push to make things happen our way.

At the root of the above desire are often unrealistic expectations. When we expect tasks to go faster, people to understand immediately, life to be smooth all the time, or expect perfection from ourselves, impatience arises. In other words, impatience results from the gap between expectation and reality -- the bigger the gap, the stronger the impatience.

Impatience not only destroys our peace, but also harms our relationships and does not allow us to work to the best of our ability. It is vital, therefore, to develop patience, which is one of the most quietly powerful skills we need to navigate life's challenges.
