India and Finland on Thursday elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership focused on digitalisation and sustainability, marking a significant milestone in bilateral ties during Finnish President Alexander Stubb's State Visit to India.

The announcement came after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Stubb at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, coinciding with the inauguration of the 11th Raisina Dialogue, where Stubb attended as the chief guest. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was also present at the inaugural session.

Under the new strategic framework, the two countries agreed to expand cooperation across a wide range of sectors including trade, technology, innovation, sustainability, mobility and emerging digital technologies.

Speaking at a joint press briefing, Modi said the partnership would deepen collaboration in high-technology sectors and future-oriented industries. “Inspired by our longstanding cooperation, during President Stubb's visit we are transforming India-Finland relations into a strategic partnership in digitalisation and sustainability,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that cooperation would expand in areas such as artificial intelligence, 6G telecommunications, quantum computing and clean energy technologies.

Highlighting the strong technological linkages between the two nations, Modi said Finnish telecom giant Nokia had helped connect millions of Indians through its mobile networks.
