|March 17, 2025
Gangaur is one of the most vibrant and significant festivals celebrated in Rajasthan, deeply rooted in the culture and traditions of the state.

Observed with great enthusiasm by women, this festival honors Goddess Gauri (Parvati), the consort of Lord Shiva, symbolizing marital bliss, devotion, and prosperity.
Gangaur is not just a religious festival but also a grand social and cultural event, bringing communities together in a colorful celebration.
SIGNIFICANCE OF GANGAUR
Gangaur derives its name from 'Gan' (Lord Shiva) and 'Gaur' (Goddess Parvati), representing the divine union of the two deities.
The festival is primarily observed by married and unmarried women, who pray for the well-being of their husbands or future spouses.
It is believed that Goddess Parvati observed rigorous penance to win the love of Lord Shiva, making this festival a symbol of dedication, love, and harmony in married life.
Gangaur holds immense importance in Rajasthan, where women observe fasts, dress in traditional attire, and participate in processions, making it a spectacular event that showcases the state's rich heritage.
DURATION AND TIMING
The festival lasts for 18 days, starting from the first day of Chaitra (March-April) and concluding on the third day of Shukla Paksha in the same month.
