FESTIVALS ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE INDIAN ECONOMY
The Daily Guardian
|October 28, 2025
India has a long tradition of celebrating numerous festivals rooted in its historical and theological background.
Each festival has a different theological foundation, but all demonstrate victory over evil, promote spirituality, and spread happiness, goodness, and humanity among the people. All the festivals generate curiosity among younger brains to connect with their roots.
The festivals help people forget their daily work tensions and reconnect with their families, friends, and environment. After the celebrations of festivals, people return to their work with renewed energy and work more effectively.
The tradition of celebrating festivals has become an integral part of Indian civilisation's way of living despite being attacked and attempts to dismantle them.
Except for India, no country in the world has protected its culture and tradition when cultural transition took place due to external invasions. Indian culture and traditions are not confined to one dimension, but rather exist in multiple dimensions.
Moreover, no country in the world celebrates festivals as Indians do. More than 100 national, regional and local festivals are celebrated every year. Some of the major festivals that Indians celebrate are Diwali, Holi, Dussehra/Durga Puja, Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami, and Onam, as well as Eid, Christmas, Buddha Purnima, Baisakhi, etc.
Indians celebrate the English New Year grandly from 31st December to January 1st. In addition, most of the Indian states celebrate their new year separately in various names, The Hindu New Year festival in Indian states shows the social harmony among the people and the worship of nature.
