Leaders hoping to get a Congress ticket for the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections will have to go through a trial by fire.
Aspiring candidates will have to fulfil a number of conditions set by the party. This time, tickets will not be available on the basis of recommendations. With thumping majorities in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka assemblies, the morale of the party leadership is high.
In such a situation, party leadership has set its mind on an even stricter system of ticket allocation. Sources have said that only those who have a good public image and are deemed capable of winning the elections will get party tickets.
Deepak Babaria, incharge of the party's Haryana affairs, has made it clear that tickets will not be given at the behest of any particular person. The norm in Haryana has been that senior leaders lobby for tickets for their supporters. Most leaders endeavour to get tickets for a maximum number of their supporters. In the 2019 Assembly elections, tickets were allotted under the quota system.
