Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday vowed to identify and expel illegal infiltrators from West Bengal, launching a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress government at a combative press conference in Kolkata.
Calling infiltration a national security threat with spillover effects beyond Bengal, Shah said that if the BJP comes to power in 2026, it would both stop illegal entry and drive out those already in the state. He promised a "national grid" to seal borders, remarking that not even a bird would be able to cross.
Projecting confidence ahead of the Assembly elections, Shah predicted a two-thirds majority for the BJP, pitching the campaign on security, development and anti-corruption. His three-day visit marked an early and aggressive push, combining organisational reviews with targeted outreach to key voter groups.
