Beijing Reaffirms Normalization of Ties With EU Ahead of July Summit

China has reaffirmed its commitment to normalizing relations with the European Parliament as Beijing seeks to strengthen economic and political ties with Brussels, even amid ongoing global trade frictions and diplomatic tensions.
This announcement comes as both sides appear eager to move past recent disputes and restore cooperation after years of strained interactions.
On Wednesday, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian acknowledged that exchanges between Chinese and European legislative bodies had faced setbacks in recent years due to well-known reasons, referring indirectly to the political controversies surrounding alleged human rights abuses in Xinjiang. These disputes led to reciprocal sanctions and restrictions on lawmakers and entities from both sides, deepening diplomatic strains.
