Over the past two decades, conversations with more than a hundred women who were either married or unmarried, but appeared to be doing well, have revealed that there’s quite an evolution going on beneath the surface. Today, a growing number of married women are taking control of their finances and becoming financially “single” because they don't rely on anyone else to make financial decisions for them anymore. This isn't a revolution; it’s a realignment.

As per MoSPI, approximately 40% of all bank accounts and deposits are now being held in a woman's name in India. As financially single means having control over your financial decisions; you can still save and invest jointly with your spouse, but also save and invest separately. Even if no one ever intervenes, you will still have your own credit history, life insurance, and a retirement plan. Financially single simply means you know how your finances stand, regardless of whether you need to rely on someone else.
