REIGNING Bond Timber Cornwall Premier Champions Penzance lost both games to Callington last season - but laid a marker for 2025 with a 57-run win at Moores Park.

- by MICHAEL WEEKS

It was Callington's first defeat of the season. Drizzle meant a 70-minute delayed start with the match reduced to 39 overs. Mo Danyaal struck two early blows, removing Jack Paull and Nic Halstead-Cleak, but Christian Purchase (52) and Brad Wadlan put together a match-defining partnership of 122 for the third wicket.

Wadlan went on to dominate the innings, ending on 100 not out with 14 fours off 121 balls. Needing 205, the home side lost Max Tryfonos and Xavier Clarke for only a single.

Aidan Libby followed, and at 23-3 off nine overs, skipper Graham Wagg was forced to retire with a hand injury.
