Shoprite rolls out its Sixty60

The Shoprite Group will launch its industry-leading on-demand grocery delivery service, Sixty60, at 19 stores across eight provinces. This follows a pilot in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Sixty60 is already operating at 601 locations across its Checkers store footprint, and despite adding 96 new locations in the past six months, including its 38 Checkers Hypers, penetration across the store base has plateaued.

Effectively, all the stores in this network are enabled with Sixty60, as Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Checkers Liquorshop together comprise 637 stores.

It is unlikely that Sixty60 will reach 100% coverage in the near term as there are certain locations with limited ability to stage a fleet of delivery bikes (as this requires negotiation with landlords), and there are a minority of stores in areas that are serviced by a larger store nearby.
