S President Donald Trump's nefarious trade wars and tariff policies - masquerading as economic improvement, promoting domestic manufacturing, protecting national security and lowering income taxes - offer important lessons for South Africa.

This ostensible protectionist approach will eventually slow down the American economy and lead to higher prices for US consumers. In an interconnected global economy, such an isolationist approach is self-defeating.
