During the colder months of the year, the skin can become especially dry, sensitive and itchy. One doesn't need to go out and buy expensive products to replenish the skin. There are a few natural and sensible alternatives that can be taken as well.

Dry skin occurs when the outermost layer of the skin is lacking in moisture and is common on areas of the body which are exposed to the elements, particularly in winter. A good balance of oil and moisture is necessary for a healthy protected skin.

The moisture content in the cells is controlled by oils that are secreted by the sebaceous glands. These oils lubricate the surface of the skin and prevent the evaporation of moisture from the outer layers of the skin.
