MALEMA GIFTED R2K JACKET, PAINTING

- Vhahangwele Nemakonde

It appears most members of parliament (MPs) rely primarily on their salaries and have limited business interests.

The parliament code of conduct mandates that after a general election, members disclose their registrable interests within 60 working days of its opening.

Most declared ownership of just one or two residential properties while some reported holding company shares, with the exception of Mzwanele Manyi who reported shares worth R1 million.

Manyi's 1000 shares are with Ubuntu-Botho Investments and he owns a property in Sandton.

John Hlophe, uMkhonto weSizwe party MP, declared a residential property in Cape Town, a game farm and a farm all in the Western Cape. He has a residential property in KwaZulu-Natal.

Other notable declarations were Supra Mahumapelo, who owns seven residential properties in North West and Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie, who reported directorships and partnerships at 28 companies, 27 of which have been deregistered.

Mahumapelo has shares with Future Gold worth R85 000 and rents out two of his properties.
