TRUTH TELLING: JOHN RWOTHOMACK'S ONE-MAN SHOW
-
Born from the moment eight-year-old boy in Uganda was nearly forcibly recruited by rebel army.
War or armed conflict is an expression of human greed and power lust. Estimates are that in Africa there are between 15 and 50 wars happening at any given time.
And it's not just grownups that take up arms, it's child soldiers too. It happens near-next door to home and exacerbates the theft of life.
While a lot has been written about the subtle and the gross blood product of war, few explore its dark side like Far Gone.
It’s a one-man performance written and performed by Ugandan born writer and actor John Rwothomack. His one-man show was born from a moment that could have ended differently, the day an eight-year-old boy in northern Uganda nearly became a child soldier.
“I was almost kidnapped by the LRA,” he said. The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) is a rebel group that operates in central and east Africa.
“That day has never left me. I wanted to make sense of it, to take ownership of it, and to tell the story on my terms.”
UK-based Rwothomack channels that memory into Far Gone.

It feels silly to even suggest this, but based on the performances of the country's strong spin bowling contingent, Keshav Maharaj's place in the national Test team might be in danger.
