His kingdom is the showroom

“My customers know if there is an issue, I am the one to sort it out.”

- Brendan Seery

His kingdom is the showroom

The one thing Adrian Victor, pictured, doesn’t need is wallpaper for his office walls… they’re already covered with framed certificates and awards that confirm he is one of the top people in his business. And his business is moving metal.

After four decades selling cars, Adrian gets up every day with energy and sparkle.

“I just love my job,” he says, after a welcoming handshake.

His kingdom is the showroom floor at Eagle Motor City in Bramley, Joburg, and, whereas for much of his career he sold Fords, he now also sells Suzukis, Mazdas and Mahindras.

There is more to learn in a “multi-franchise” dealership like this, but selling is not really about understanding engine kilowatts, fuel consumption or service plans. It’s about connecting with people, he says.

Which is a talent that seems to be disappearing these days. When you remind him about the three “low-life” people — at least as far as popular culture is concerned — you barely get past “journalist” and “estate agent” before he bursts out laughing and adds “car salesman!”
