Haven't filed your tax return? This is how to navigate tax season
The Citizen
|August 04, 2025
It is tax season and time to file your tax return, which means it is time for taxpayers to stress about getting it right to ensure they do not pay too much tax or too little.
-
This year, South African Revenue Service's (SARS) tax systems and officials are expected to be more efficient and focused on collecting revenue, which means you must be sure you included everything in your return, says Allan Gray tax manager Meagan Fraser.
"For the majority of South Africans, the reversal of the proposed 0.5% VAT increase earlier this year provided a sense of relief in terms of their monthly budgets. However, the loss of the anticipated revenue from this proposed increase resulted in a R75 billion shortfall in the national budget."
This, she points out, resulted in a renewed drive on the part of SARS to ensure that outstanding taxes are accurately and efficiently collected.

Friendlier airport officials please
After nearly 24 hours in an A380 Airbus, (it could just as well have been in a bus travelling through Africa) and arriving tired and a tad dishevelled, one's fondness for South Africa is jaded to say the least.
