Former public protector advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who is a leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party in Mpumalanga, believes her life is in danger.

Mkhwebane became provincial convenor of MK in Mpumalanga this year after several court battles with a former leader and party representative in the provincial legislature, Mary Phadi.

Mkhwebane confirmed she has opened a case in connection with an assassination plot allegedly by senior party member Abednego Mkhatshwa.

Recently, a voice note has been circulating on social media in which a man, believed to be Mkhatshwa, says he hates Mkhwebane and wants to assassinate her.

"I opened a case with the SA Police Service on 11 October and am waiting for the case number," said Mkhwebane.

The impeached former public protector said such a threat could not be taken lightly, as political killings were prevalent in SA.
