IMPRESSSIVE: SUMMER CUP DEFENDING CHAMPION SHOWS HIS CLASS WITH CHARITY MILE TRIUMPH

- Muzi Yeni

Atticus Finch stakes his claim

BANKER. Buffalo Storm Cody who contests Race 4 at Turffontein on Sunday is Muzi Yeni's best bet on the card.

Last week saw a phenomenal day take place at Turffontein with the running of the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode On A Mission Charity Mile taking place.

Atticus Finch produced a performance second to none when dominating a quality field and immediately announcing himself as the horse to beat come the big day where he will try and defend his crown.

Well done to the sponsors, the charities and to all the winning connections on a fantastic day.

Racing on the Highveld this weekend takes place Sunday on the Standside track at Turffontein and there is a nine-race card to preview.

The headliner is the Grade 3 Betway Victory Moon Stakes over 1800m which serves as one of the biggest preps into the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup on 29 November. I have seven carded rides, so I'll be hoping to get on the board through the day.

Now on to the card. Race 1 is a Maiden Plate over 1160m and I ride Hammer Blow who is a really nice horse. He has run two decent races to date and I'll be disappointed if he isn’t in the money again.

However, we all have Tempranillo to beat. This filly gave me a lovely feel on debut when I finished second on her and with the expected natural improvement, I think she’ll be a tough nut to crack.

Seed Seeker has some good form and is consistent, so another honest run can be expected.

Watch the betting and canter past on the unraced horses for the best guide to their chances.

Race 2 is a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1160m and I ride The Reason who ran downfield on debut and will have to improve to feature.

Brigitte Anne returns from a small break but her form before the break was really good and if she returns close to peak fitness then she’s the filly we all have to beat.
