A master of illusion
The Citizen
|October 26, 2024
Rob Lake pushes the boundaries of magic.
Mind-boggling and awesome. When an illusionist creates a brain trick that inspires jaw-dropping wowsers, it feels like magic. But it's science with a mirror ball. And that is what makes it so enticing, exciting and never-can-get-enough for audiences. Rob Lake, master illusionist and the next big thing since smoke and mirrors, is presently touring South Africa.
His sell-out shows have been performed before millions of people across 44 countries and Lake is the illusionist to the stars these days, too. He consults for big-name acts like Adele among others. And it's only been six years since his breakthrough came on America's Got Talent in 2018.
Lake will be performing until tomorrow at the Teatro in Montecasino.
What drives you to keep pushing the boundaries of magic?
Initially, I think it was just a push to be successful in magic, to make a career. But I now feel that success really follows passion and persistence.
Now what drives me is reaching for perfection. I am always pushing myself to make things better, more deceptive, faster, more engaging for an audience.
I never stop pushing myself to create more and to always evolve and improve.
Magic is often described as storytelling through illusion. Great question!
I have never liked magic for the sake of tricking someone.
