'We need to educate families on technology's pros and cons'
The Chronicle
|May 15, 2025
THE new president of a headteachers' union based in North Tyneside has spoken out on the importance of educating children about phone use in school and the dangers of excess 'screen-time'.
Phone use and young people’s increasing exposure to technology has made national and local headlines, with calls for tougher measures in schools. North Tyneside Conservative councillors recently called for a ban on mobile phones in schools, with the council’s Labour administration saying it would work with any schools which decided to tighten up measures.
Now, the newly appointed president of the National Association of Headteachers, Wallsend headteacher Angi Gibson, has weighed in calling for education to “embrace” technology but set clear expectations for young people.
