Respects paid to man of 'love and wisdom'

The funeral of veteran Dennis Tate at St Oswald's Church, Walkergate

Royal British Legion representatives attended the funeral service of Dennis Tate, who lived in Heaton, at St Oswald's Church in Walker on Monday.

The Legion's standard bearers played The Last Post as the military man made his final journey. Dennis carried out this same role himself for many years at Remembrance services in Forest Hall, alongside his late wife Cathy, who he has been buried alongside.

A large number of family and friends attended the funeral service to pay their respects to Dennis, who was 94.
