Regeneration to bring hundreds of new homes

HUNDREDS of new homes are planned under a major regeneration programme in Newcastle's East End.

Council bosses have pledged a “long-term commitment” to reinvigorate Walker.

A masterplan for the area will include plans to build 451 new homes, including 137 for affordable rent or purchase, including some on the site of the demolished Hexham House tower block.

The 16-storey structure was brought down via a controlled explosion in November 2024, having stood empty for several years after its final tenants were moved out.

The dramatic removal of the housing block followed its old neighbour Titan House’s demolition, both big changes to the skyline in the east of the city, while derelict shops at the Church Walk Centre are also scheduled to be torn down.
